Caring For Your Cats

Hello loves,

UPDATE 01.04.16

Our routine has slightly changed again for the care of my cats, as I actually now have a fourth. He is still a kitten at only 4 months old. If you follow me on twitter @workingmumy you will have seen photos of TC (Top Cat). I will do an updated care post soon!

As you all know I love having pets. So today's post will be about how I take care of my cats.

I have 3 cats. Two adult males called cheety cat and Harley cat. I also have one small female called pickles.

Cheety cat is medium length furred and is a total pain with tufts. He is brushed nearly every night and he still gets the odd tuft under his chin, at his butt or behind his ears. He has never had to be shaved yet. So I must be doing something right.

Harley cat is short furred. I still brush him but only once a week or so.

This is pickles she is also short furred and doesn't require much brushing.

I would recommend that even if you have a short hair cat to brush them at least once or twice a week as it can reduce fur balls.

I would like to say my cats get fed 3 times a day lol but in reality it's probably a lot more than that. The two boys possibly get a tin of meat each and pickles only like biscuits.

Their meat is butchers classic. You can get this from pets at home You can get 24cans for £12 which is a really good deal. Pickles is still on kitten biscuits. I have tried to change her to adult ones since she is over a year old. But they don't agree with her digestive system. So for now she eat Go Cat Kitten

They don't have a water bowl and I know all cats are different and fussy drinkers. They will only drink from running water. So I need to leave the bath tap running for them.

My mums cats will only drink from a vase or the pond!!

The cats have the normal cat toys and a cat scratch post. Not that anyone plays with or uses them!! But they are all there. There are two cream fleaces in the living room for them and these get washed once a week.

The cats all get wormed once every 3 months. Here is what I use.

They also get fleaed every 3 months. Nothing worse than having to fumigate the house because one of the cats have fleas!! Have a look here.

The most important thing is to get them their injections every 6 months. This not only protects them but protects your pockets! Ask your vet. Most of them have some sort of plan where if you pay £20 a month you get free boosters or reduced price boosters.

The last most important thing! Insurance!! Get your cat insured. I personally recommend pet plan  as they have always been helpful and I've never had any problem with them. If something goes wrong with your cat, specially if your not insured. It just seems like it's always something major and expensive. So best to be insured!

Hmmm lastly I always have collers on all of them. This way people know that they belong to someone. If you want to have a name tag on them don't put their name. Just your phone number. Putting down their name could cause problems with other people claiming them to be theirs!!

Ohhh I forgot, microchipping. This is done at the vets. The price varies mine was £10 but your vet could charge anything. At least if your cat goes missing and is found it can be returned to you (even if it doesn't want to be). Please just remember to update these if you move house. So many animals can't be returned to owners as they forget to update these details.

Over all for me for one cat. Microchipping, vaccinations, fleas and worms was about £160 - £200. This all depends on your vets again.

I think that's about it. I could go on and on about cats. But I think that's all the important stuff. If you have any questions. Let me know in the comments and I will try and answer best I can :)

Hi lovelies,

I thought I'd do a post on bullying today as I recently watched a video on YouTube  about it.

This video was on Facebook doing the rounds and usually I don't even watch the videos on Facebook. But for some reason I did this time. I cried all the way through it. All I could think was what if that was Holly.

It's a video of a mum telling the story of how her teenage son committed suicide because he was being bullied.

People were calling him names because he liked to trap and hunt. They were texting him horrible things. Someone actually told him to "do them all a favour and go kill yourself". These people are teenagers. They know what right and wrong is. How can they think saying that is ok?

He was being battered while trying to get to the bus because "he was a p***y and needed his ass kicked" again they know the difference of right and wrong. How can people think this is ok?

I was no angel when I was at school. I done stuff while with groups of people which could be called bulling and I'm not proud of them. But I never picked someone out of a group and bullied that person for no reason. I've called people names and shouldn't have. But I would never have pushed it to the breaking point for that person.

Long story short, this boy kilt himself with one of his rifles.

All I could think of was what if that was Holly? I would need to move city. I could not live in that place and see one of those children, that bullied my kid to the point they felt like they needed to take their own life, walking down the street laughing an enjoying life. Doing what my kid should have been doing. I would be jailed for murder.

Why do kids who know the difference from right and wrong think it's ok to bully to that extent. It doesn't matter what school you go to, there is always going to be conflict and name calling. But to push it to that is just horrendous.

Unfortunately this happens all to often in our society. I think the schools should be doing more to protect vulnerable kids.

I just can't get my head around kids old enough to know right from wrong telling someone to go kill themselves. Is it society, parents or peer pressure? Are the in a vulnerable place themselves.

If I ever found out Holly was bulling someone. She would feel my wrath. I would go as far probably as to do something that would humiliate her to see what it felt like. She would be grounded no money, no friends, banned from all technology until she realised what she was doing. There is no way I would let that continue once I found out about it.

At the same time, I would hope if she seen someone being bullied, that she would go tell an adult about it and keep shouting about it and telling as many adults about it as possible. Till someone listened and done something about it.

I hope I raise her to be strong and not care what others are saying about her as long as she is doing the right things. Not to give into peer pressure and stand for what she believes.

Have you ever had an experience like that?

Finding That One Thing

Recently I have been think about what I'd like to happen in my future. There's a lot of change on the way and I would like to find that one thing that I can say "you know what, I'm good at that"

My lovely other half has found that in his job. Ok he doesn't love his job, who does love their job. But he has recently been put forward for a promotion because he's good at what he does. I am so unbelievably happy for him but at the same time slightly annoyed that I haven't found mine yet.

My dream is to be able to quite me job (who's isn't right!!) and have a unit close to my house that I can go to and work from.

I have plenty of things that I'm good at. Baking, drawing, DIY crafts for my house or work. But you can't really make a living from drawing. I'm good at baking but not good enough to sell it and there's just so many people selling DIY craft things on Facebook or Etsy. I'm not different enough to be able to sell that I don't think.

I just need to find that one thing that I know I'm good at. I don't even need to make a living off it. Id like to just have it.

Have you found that one things for you??

Manuka Honey On A Guinea Pig Wound??!

Hello lovelies,

Update!! 21.03.16
This post is from April 2015 however i have a lot of these older posts which are sitting in draft and i didn't want to bin them. Marvin did end up dying from complications at the end of 2015. But nt from this same wound!! the Manuka Honey healed this particular wound up wonderfully and i still do this day, say that if it wasn't for this honey he would have died April 2015.

Have fun reading guys and let me know what you thing :)

As you all know I have been having problems with my pigs wound. It won't heal. It keeps going septic and it's just horrible and smelly.

So we have taken swabs and are waiting to see what that comes back with. The antibiotics have been changed and the dosage upped as they don't seem to be making any difference just now.

So as a last attempt at trying to stall the infection till the swabs came back, the vet suggested using Manuka Honey.

Manuka honey comes from New Zeland and it comes from trees. People have been using it for centuries to heal infections in wounds. But it is only recently becoming wide spread.

I know a lot of people have issue with not giving pigs honey. An I was very skeptical to when they told me to pack it inside the wound!!

I am going to be honest I actually seen a difference over night!!

Manuka honey has a high antiseptic value and has a bacterialside in it. This stuff is used in hospitals to kill off MRSA and MSSA!! If it can heal and kill those bugs. Surly it can work on Marvin.

I seen some stuff on the internet what wounds in animals look like after using it for a week or so and I didn't believe it.

Now don't get me wrong this is only my second day of using this. But it is flushing out the dead tissue. Before when you looked at his wound. It was full of greyish white puss and tissue and unless you went sticking cotton buds in there (and even still with a bud) it was super hard to get out. I was squirting iodine in there and nothing was budging. I used it yesterday at about 5:30pm and cleaned it again at 9:30pm and I actually seen a difference. The wound was still greyish green but it was starting to empty. When you squirted the iodine in stuff was coming out!! There was actually a hole starting to open and clear out!!

In guinea pigs, an abcesse wound is left open to allow drainage and to allow it to heal from the inside out. An I actually have hope now that this might work long enough for us to find out what's inside.

I am going to take photos ever night until we sort him out to show you the effects it has!!

Have you ever used or heard of Manuka honey??

It's Been Nearly A Year!!

Well hello!!

It's been nearly a year since I last put a up blog!! A year!!! It all just started to feel too much there for a bit. It wasn't fun anymore and instead of a hobby, it felt more like work. So I stopped.

But so much has happened recently and I though, hey let's try get back into this and see what happens.

First update!!
I'm PREGNANT!! Baby 2.0 is due 6 September 2016!!! So at the moment I am currently 16 weeks gone. I don't have much of a bump yet. But I am still soooo unbelievably tired!! I started out at 11stone 8lb and I am still currently that weight.
Any guesses if a boy or girl are welcome!!

Update 2
We knew we wanted another baby this year so before we actually got pregnant I lost 2 stone in weight. Which of I'm right is 28lbs. I went from 13stone 8lbs to 11stone 8lbs. I was still slight over my bmi. I had another 4lb to lose but hey ho. That will have to wait!

Update 3
Holly turned 3 on the 27th of Feb 2016 and she starts nursery on the 12th April 2016. I have mixed emotions about this! I know she's ready, you can just tell!! She is bored at the babysitters now. I know she will be fine but. I can't keep her off now when I'm on holiday and we can't just decided to do stuff during the week! It will all need to be kept for weekends now.

Last update
We have decided next year we are going to FLORIDA!! To do this we need to be doing some serious budgeting and saving!! An you know it will be difficult probably with an under one. But I want to go for Holly. I want her to see Disney while she's still small enough to totally believe in the magic.

There is probably other stuff but that's all I can think of at the moment. So until next time :)

Ps it won't be a year haha
And then the fun began...
