Here is today's update of my little Marvin's wound.
As you can see it is totally empty today :) there is still a little infection but there is no lumps of icky in there anymore. That's honey all over him lol. There is a white coating over the inside. But it all looks pretty healthy.
He went to the vets today and she is also happy with him. So he's not back till next Saturday.
Here is what came out him this afternoon when I was cleaning it.
That's the lump you could see yesterday. It's just basically dead skin with stitches in it.
The film did change slightly to the book. But at the same time it kept most of the same story line and it is still all tied into the original story.
Some of the differences that are in the book are, the message from Edith Prior is from a file which Janine knows about and is hiding. But in the film Janine doesn't know what the message is and it is inside a box which only the a divergent can open. Now this difference doesn't really matter as it still gets exposed to the full city.
The film doesn't portray the divide between the dauntless and factionless, even though they are working together and it also doesn't go into much of Evelyn controlling the city and becoming a bit of a tyrant. So I'm not sure how that will tie in with movie 3.
The film also didn't have the execution scene like the book. I think that was a big part of the book and the film defiantly missed out on that. Peter still rescues Tris with the serum, which is kind of like the book.
I did like the way in which they had Tris hooked to the computer trying to get her to open the box. I think that was a good idea. Rather than just on a table, getting injected with serum all the time.
The film doesn't really go into Christina hating Tris that much which I was quite disappointed about as well. I liked the intensity of that part. I also missed all the arguing between Tris and Four. I think that was a major part of the book to lead into book 3 and I think that is also what makes book 3s ending so intense and sad. So it will be interesting to see what happens in film 3 with their relationship.
The last bit I'm not sure about was at the end. In the book Evelyn stops anyone from leaving. This is why the Allegient group is formed and they send a small group outside the wall. However at the end of the film, it looked like lots of people were heading to the wall. So that will be interesting to see how that all ties in!
I have 2 scenes that I loved in the film and that was when Tris is passing Four in his room and he is pushing and banging the glass, and she is also struggling to get away. I think this is the only part of the film that you feel the intense feelings they have for each other. I don't feel that intensity coming through in the rest.
The second scene I loved, was Peter wheeling Tris's body to let Four see and then the fight seen after it. Then Peter trying to explain what he done and to get them moving. I just love Peter lol, I think his character is great even though he's a pretty rubbish person.
Have you watched the film and read the book? Let me know what you think.
As you can see the wound is shrinking and there is nice living tissue all in there!! Yes there is still some narcotic tissue that you can see (that white lump), that actually has stitches still in it. But I think you will agree it looks better.
He is back at the vets tomorrow. So we will see what they say.
If you are squeamish don't go on. This picture is better than the last one and it's pretty gross. But I wanted to show just how bad this infection is and point out the good points of it.
So I have applied the Manuka Honey 3 times since the last photo.
In my opinion the wound is better than the last photo. Yes there is still infection as you can see and that white lump is narcotic tissue which has stitches in it and has rotted. I think that is the worst thing about this photo.
The good point are the edges of the wound are clean and pink. The last time before his second op when this happens, the skin around the sides was grey and dying. If you look inside there is pink flesh showing through. This can be seen in the top left next to the white lump. An the middle right. Also right at the bottom. Yesterday you couldn't see that.
Before I started with the honey the wound was full of infection no clean flesh was visible. Now it looks like it is starting to empty. Every time I clean it out. Just before I apply the honey. Some more ick comes out.
I am genuinely surprised at this honey working.
Hopefully this will keep him going until we get the swab results back beginning of next week.
He is still acting normal. Wrecking his cage, eating, peeing and pooing. He is also 920g and was the same weight on Tuesday when I took him to the vets.
This is actually an old program and I am very late in jumping on the bandwagon.
But I am loving How I Met Your Mother. I am only on Season 2 as mark and I binge watch this on a Saturday night and a Sunday morning!! But it's so good!!
I think Lilly and Marshalls relationship is what everyone should have!! They are just so happy and don't mind doing the cheesy stuff!!
Barney is just amazing. The things he says is hilarious!! I still don't know what his job is!!
Robin and Ted just need to get a finger out and get together!!
I know that robin isn't the kids mother! And I know that the mother is linked to different people all the way through the series. An there's something about either yellow or a yellow umbrella. An this his how close they have been and never actually noticed.
Everything has went down hill with poor Marvin, then back up bit again!!
Everything was looking great until yesterday morning. It looked like he had took off the scan a little in the middle and by the time I came home from work, it was open and rotten looking inside.
So I took him back to the vets, they had a look and got me an appointment at 8am this morning, to see the vet who done all his ops.
So we have taken swabs to send away to find out what type of bacteria is living in it. As there is something that won't let it heal and is not responding to antibiotics. But we won't find out the results until next week
Until then he is on
Septrin - a new antibiotic 7.5ml twice a day
Metacam 2ml of pain killer once a day
Also he recommended Manuka Honey. I'm not saying anything about it except that it has antibacterial properties and I will be doing a review!!!
He is still acting fine. Being his normal little self. Eating, peeing , pooing and wrecking his cage. It's just this stupid wound. Looking at him in his cage and pen, you wouldn't know anything was wrong with him. So that is always a hopeful sign!!
Today is Holly's third hair cut. Here is what it looks like before.
I am going to get it bobbed to just below her shoulders, or maybe a proper bob I'm not sure yet!! You will see below what I chose. She has a double crown and makes it hard to get her hair to look nice!! An she has this frizzy bit on the right hand side. Looks like that everyday. Unless you wash it first thing. We use conditioner in it as well so I'm not sure.
Here is the after photo!!
The back is all squared
She can see again!! And it's straight! Haha.
I have been trimming her hair myself. But I think now I will just be taking her every 6 weeks or so to get it tidied up. Looks so much better.
I have just finished the Divergent series and I have a huge mixture of emotion swirling about just now!!
I love all 3 story lines. The first book being my favourite and the third my least. I love the way it's written! But I just craved the first book all the way through the third.
I will try not put out any spoilers!! But I will let you know if I do with a big SPOILER ALERT!!
The divergent series is about a post apocalyptic world where everyone stays in a city surrounded by a wall. There are factions Which are Candour - always speaks the truth, Erudite - craves knowledge, Abnegation - selfless always helping others before themselves, Dauntless - the protesters of the city and then the Frictionless - they don't fit in anywhere!!
Divergent is about our main character Beatrice Prior changing factions from Abnegation to dauntless. It follows her through her initiation to get into dauntless. She finds out things about herself that she needs to keep secret unless she wants to die at the hands of the Erudite and her falling in love for the first time.
This explanation does not do this book justice!! You just need to go have a look at it. Because it is amazing!!
The second book Insurgent follows Tris again from just after the big event at the end of the first book. She is on the run with a small group of people. She has to over come grief and guilt from loosing people she loves. She has to also over come fears with trying to fight for her life!
Again amazing book, you really just need to have a look at it.
The third book Allegiant is a bit different as you get both Tris's view and Tobias's view. This follows Tris from escaping the event at the end of book 2 (I don't want to give anything away lol) and into a totally new world. She has to come to terms with some truths, figure out her feelings for Tobias while still coping with grief and a lot and I mean a lot of anger this time.
There are a few big shocks in this book!!! Stuff I didn't expect to happen. I loved this book but found myself craving how things were in book one.
Don't read this but if you don't want the books spoilt for you.
I don't like how it's yet another government experimenting on people. I wanted the city to just be how it was and have another shocking turn of I don't know maybe mutilated people outside the wall or diseased people or something. I just think the whole government experimenting on people is a bit redundant. I craved for the city to be just how it was and that was it.
But I would give the first 2 books 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5 starts and the third book 🌟🌟🌟🌟 4 stars.
Do any of you know of dystopian books that a government isn't involved in??! And there is no experimenting lol let me know!!
Marvin went back to the vets on Friday the 22.05.12 as his wound had went a horrible grey colour and it was smelly
The vet at the time gave me three options, 1. Got to the Dick Vets in Edinburgh to see a specialist 2. Put him to sleep 3. Take him back on Saturday and see what they could do in house with the original vet. But he will probably die anyway.
As you can imagine I was not a happy bunny!!
He was acting normal. You would not know he had something wrong with him except for when you picked him up. He was his normal self. There was no way I was putting him to sleep.
So we went back into see the vet at 9:00am on Saturday morning and the think that because they left a hole for drainage, that he has actually been peeing through it and that it has scaled the skin. There for making it die off.
So they took him straight back in to sort it all out.
I got a phone call at 2pm telling me he was fine and that they had moved some muscle to make sure things were flowing in the right direction, done some inside stitches and glued the wound shut. As you know he chewed his last stitches out.
I got him home and at the moment he is doing awesomely well!! He is peeing and pooing. He has been out of his house and has been eating veg, pellets and hay. So I am very happy with him so far. He has had all his meds and I have cleaned his wound.
We are back at the vets Sunday 24.05.15 to get his post op check. I just hope he hasn't been chewing at his wound.
I got up at 5:50am on Thursday to clean his wound and give him his bed and he had chewed out his bottom stitched, and looked bruised.
By the time I got home he had chewed out all his stitches. So the wound was open. Luckily we had the vets same day at 4pm.
As you can imagine that was pretty scary looking but the vet seems happy with it. It looks worse than it is, as there is another layer of stitched under the ones he chewed out and these have began to heal and knit together.
So now all we need to do is keep the wound clean and hope it heals from the inside out.
He is currently on
Emeprid 0.9ml and Ranitidine 0.3ml there's are two digestive starters. Guinea pigs are like rabbits, their digestive system needs to be constantly moving or they get bloat. He was eating but not as much as he normally eats. An it was only his veg and hay. So they gave him these to get him interested in his food again.
Metacam 0.1ml this is a typical animal painkiller.
Baytril 0.3ml this is an antibiotic. It is used to remove stubborn bacteria like staph and pseuds. It is effective on both gram negative and positive bacteria. It works by stopping the bacteria from transcribing which in turn kills the bacteria.
His last treatment is a Iodine wash. This is to bathe the open wounds and hope that it keeps it from getting infected. I put this on cotton pads to dab and clean the outside. Then I put some in a syringe and I squirt it into the top of the wound and let it run down through it.
His next appointment is on Saturday at 12pm. So I will update everyone again then :)
As you all know back in I think it was Febuary, Marvin my guinea pig went in to get neutered.
He had a few post op checks after that and there was a small lump where he had been operated on. The vets put it down to fluid.
In March he was back again as the lump had got bigger. They still didn't know what it was but gave him some pain killers as he hadn't quite reached his original weight, and they thought it was maybe the lump.
However he was still acting normal. Running around, eating, drinking, squeaking and playing. It didn't seem like the lump was sore. So we decided to take him off the pain killers and see how things went.
So up until last week he was fine. But when I came back from being away with work, It had got considerably bigger.
As you can see there doesn't look like there's an infection as the skin is nice and pink. This is why the vets think it could possibly be a hernia.
So he went in today 20.05.15 at 8:20am to have it removed. So it is now just a waiting game!!
I though today I would do a book review in the Breeders series.
This is another dystopian book series and it's set in a time when the world has been poisoned, and females are no longer born naturally. The only genders born now are males and bender who are a mash up of females and males.
There are 3 books to this series. Soon to be 4 (comes out in December 15 I think).
The first book is The Breeders. In this book our main character Riley has to escape the breeders, protect her family, rescuing her mum and auntie, deal with grief and love!! Mean while clay needs to deal with the fact someone he though was a bender is actually a female and who will he protect more, Riley his new found love or his monster mother. One of the head scientists at the breeding facility, where they are buying females to experiment on them, to get them pregnant and repopulate the world with females.
This book is a bit slow up until cheaper 5. But let me tell you after chapter 5, there is pretty much a cliff hanger at the end of every chapter!! They are so good. Before chapter 5 it's all about setting the scene.
After escaping the breeders, Riley and her group are captured and taken to a cult like group living in an old shopping mall. Not only does Riley feel she now needs to protect everyone, she has to protect her new love clay from becoming a monster, save her mother from a mutant baby and get her family out if the have any hope of survival.
Again this book has cliff hangers at the end of every chapter and its full throttle from the very first chapter.
The 3rd book. The Benders - Riley just never gets a break. Suffering unbelievable loss Riley and clay set out to return to to their home where clay will retake his village and save auntie. Upon arrival everything has changed. Riley's separated from her brother and clay, and taken to a work camp where the owner uses humans as sport. Will she get out alive??! Meanwhile her brother Ethan and clay are taken to a facility where human experiments on the brain is not such a far fetched idea. Will our group ever be together again?!
This was my least favourite out of the 3 books so far. It was still packed full of action and had a great story line. I think I just missed the interaction with Riley and clay.
Overall this is a great series. There are some short stories concerning the characters in the stories however, I haven't read those yet. This gets a 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5/5 from me!!
Hope you all enjoyed. Let me know what you think of these books.
So my third night away we stayed in the Hilton in Chester.
I can't complains about the room as it was fantastic.
Then We went to the in house restraint and I had
Tomato soup with a balsamic reduction
Asparagus and pea risotto
Again no issues with this dinner either. It was amazing.
I wore this for dinner
Then the next morning it was off to a meeting then home!!! The breakfast was amazing as well. Over all I would give this hotel a 🌟🌟🌟🌟 4 and a half stars. The only reason it didn't get 5 stars is that they got our bills mixed up at dinner. But apart from that the service and everything was lovely.
This hotel also has a spa on it and you can get 3 treatments for £65 which is super good deal.
Holly was back at Baby Ballet today. She did get a bit bored at the end and wasn't really wanting to join in. But she still done well compared to some!! I think it's a definite go!
Here is what she wore.
The tinker bell top was a gift from America for her. So I'm really sorry I don't know how much it was.
Her spotted leggings were from Asda George. I'm sure these came in a set with another top which was £8 altogether. Her pink shoes have rabbits on them and they are high tops. These were from next for £6.
Here she is all excited at Baby Ballet!!
I hope you all have an awesome weekend!!
We are on to day 2 of my work trip and today's hotel was better than the first.
Last night into this morning I stayed at the premier inn at Coventry.
Please ignore the messy bed!!
For a star rating I would give this 🌟🌟🌟🌟 4 out of 5 stars. The only reasons this didn't get a 5 out of 5 is because the free wifi was rubbish and wouldn't work!! So I had to pay £5 to get Internet for 24hrs!! Then you had to ask for a hair dryer. That was annoying.
We went out for dinner and I had potato skins then a chicken pita of which I forgot to picture as it was 8:30pm and I was starved!!
This is what I wore
It was a premier in so it wasn't the fanciest. But I had a awesome nights sleep, no sore heads when I woke up and the breakfast was amazing!!! Of which I for got to take a picture :(
